BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices closed mixed on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.72 percent, at 2,906.17 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.01 percent lower at 9,626.36 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 420.04 billion yuan (about 59.67 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 471.05 billion yuan in the previous trading day.

On the Shanghai bourse, gainers outnumbered losers by 891 to 546. On the Shenzhen bourse, losers outnumbered gainers by 1209 to 894.

Companies in coal mining industry posted strong performance, with stocks of Anyuan Coal Industry Group Co. Ltd. surging by 10.182 percent to close at 3.03 yuan per share.

Shares related to transportation and computer application services led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.07 percent to close at 1,661.77 points Monday.
