BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.19 percent to close at 3,410.18 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed flat at 13,973.89 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 701.6 billion yuan (about 107.4 billion U.S. dollars), down from 769 billion yuan the previous trading day.
The liquor-making sector led the gain, while the paper-making industry saw shares fall.
Shares of Hebei Hengshui Laobaigan Liquor Co., Ltd. rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 22.65 yuan apiece.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.73 percent to close at 2,746.28 points Tuesday.
