BEIJING, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.07 percent at 3,536.79 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.12 percent higher at 15,011.35 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices came in at 966.7 billion yuan (about $149.06 billion), shrinking from 1.12 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to Chinese Baijiu (distilled spirits) led the gains, while those in the sectors of corn and steel suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.41 percent to close at 3,463.79 points Tuesday.
