Chinese shares close mixed Wednesday

BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.2 percent, at 2,931.69 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.2 percent higher at 9,302 points.

The combined turnover of stocks on the two exchanges stood at 381.52 billion yuan (about 55.43 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 352.44 billion yuan in the previous trading day.

Most stocks fell, with losers outnumbering gainers by 831 to 534 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,165 to 855 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the agriculture, forestry, fishery and animal husbandry sectors and oil industry were among the biggest gainers, with Wanxiang Doneed Co., Ltd. seeing its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 11.44 yuan.

Shares related to the ceramic industry led the losses, with shares of Everjoy Health Group Co., Ltd. dropping 3.77 percent to 3.83 yuan apiece.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.32 percent to close at 1,550.22 points.
