BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Major indices of China's stock market closed higher Friday, with the environmental protection industry leading the bullish trend.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.5 percent to 3,001.98 points while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.87 percent higher at 9,214.27 points.
Trading continued to expand, with the combined turnover in the two indices standing at 621.8 billion yuan (about 90.81 billion US dollars), rising from 602.9 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Stocks related to environmental protection were also among the bellwethers. WELLE Environmental Group Co., Ltd. soared by the daily limit of 10 percent to end at 8.44 yuan.
Bucking the trend, companies in the agriculture, forestry, fishery and husbandry sector saw their share prices drop. The Tech-Bank Food Co., Ltd. lost 5.33 percent, coming to 12.97 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.72 percent to close at 1,523.81 points on Friday.
