Chinese shares see robust performance Wednesday

BEIJING, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese major stocks indices saw a robust increase on Wednesday, boosted by securities and technology sectors.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 1.84 percent to close at 2,721.07 points, the fifth consecutive day of increase.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.01 percent higher at 8,171.21 points.

Trading was active, with a combined turnover of stocks in the two indices expanding to 474.1 billion yuan (about 70.06 billion US dollars).

Companies from the technology sector gained the most, with shares of telecom giant ZTE Corporation surging by 8.97 percent.

The securities sector saw a strong performance in the afternoon. China Galaxy Securities Co., Ltd increased by the daily limit of 10 percent to 8.75 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, rose 1.91 percent to close at 1,357.67.
