Washington (People’s Daily) -- In addition to bringing the latest equipment and technology, Caterpillar will also display a number of services to enhance the customer experience at the China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Chen Qihua, Caterpillar global vice president told People’s Daily that at Caterpillar’s booth at CIIE, visitors can better understand the company's full range of solutions to meet the needs of Chinese customers. In particular, it will showcase two advanced engine product solutions.

As a world-renowned industrial equipment manufacturer, Caterpillar Inc. has approximately 20 brands in construction machinery, mining equipment, engines, components, services and solutions. At the last year’s CIIE, Caterpillar signed letters of intent and cooperation agreement with more than a dozen customers from the energy and transportation, resources and infrastructure industries.

"For example, we signed a letter of intent for the sale and purchase of goods and services with China National Petroleum Corporation, expanding the scope of cooperation," Chen said.

He said that the cooperation between the two sides has a long history. As early as 1975, Caterpillar and PetroChina began to cooperate. At that time, PetroChina's 38 pipelayers purchased from Caterpillar arrived in China, which opened Caterpillar's development journey in China and was the starting point for cooperation between the two sides. Today, thousands of engines from all types of Caterpillar and its brands are participating in CNPC's natural gas production, transportation and storage.

Referring to the expectations of this CIIE, Chen said that attending the expo once again provided Caterpillar with an excellent opportunity to strengthen cooperation and win-win with Chinese customers and enhance the company's reputation. For example, in China, Caterpillar's construction machinery products are well known, and the CIIE provides a unique opportunity to showcase and promote brands in the Caterpillar energy sector to local customers and a wider audience, such as Solar Turbines, MWM (Mannheim) and MaK and their solutions.

“Caterpillar focuses on localization and customer needs. The machines and engines produced in China are mainly used in China and Asia Pacific. The product manufacturing base is close to the customer, allowing us to better respond to customer needs. This has become Caterpillar’s business model of successful development in China,” Chen added.

"Reform and opening up has created tremendous historical opportunities for Chinese and foreign companies. We are amazed at China's development achievements and proud of Caterpillar's development in China."

He said that Caterpillar currently has about 20 factories in China. With more than 10,000 employees and customers in China's infrastructure construction, energy and resources industries, sales in the Chinese market account for an average of 5 to 10 percent of the company's total global sales. In addition, Caterpillar has been involved in infrastructure and energy projects under the Belt and Road Initiative in a variety of innovative ways to help Chinese clients leverage their expertise in more overseas projects.

"In order to further integrate into the Chinese market, Caterpillar will continue to launch products in line with the needs of Chinese customers in the Chinese market to build a better world together," Chen said.
