Collaboration to boost mental health care

Luye Life Sciences Group’s Mindfront Health has teamed up with Shanghai Mental Health Center over diagnosis and treatment for mental illness.

Liu Dianbo, the group’s chairman, said that in five to 10 years, Mindfront aims to add 50 to 100 specialty hospitals or clinics in first-tier cities to complement public mental health-care service providers.

The first hospital is scheduled to open in Shanghai in the first half of next year with a focus on patients with mild or mid-level mental distress.

Central nervous system diseases present a challenge to patients and health-care systems and Shanghai’s mental health system development blueprint from 2020 to 2030 has required the city to set up a first-class mental health system with the focus on children, teenagers and women during the perinatal period.

Xu Yifeng, the mental health center’s president, highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration.

“We aim to share our diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation capabilities to enhance mental health-care services,” he said.

The partnership is expected to offer evidence medicine-based treatments for mental disorders adapted to the needs of Chinese patients.

The two parties will share training and clinical experience and carry out academic visits. They will also set up schemes for patient referral, and remote consultation for difficult and complicated cases.

Tang Dekai, Mindfront China’s CEO, said it hopes to strengthen collaboration with public health care providers in a more flexible manner while the private sector aims to offer better facilities and services for patients.

Mindfront Health will also create four national mental health centers in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu to extend its services to a wider area of the country.
