Dollar creeps up to mid-106 yen range as global recession fears ease

TOKYO, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar inched up to the mid-106 yen zone in Tokyo on Wednesday as long-term U.S. Treasury yields rebounding helped ease fears about a global recession.

The dollar was quoted at 106.54-56 yen at 5 p.m., compared with 106.18-28 yen in New York and 106.46-47 yen at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Tokyo.

During the day, it tracked between 106.25 yen and 106.60 yen, trading most often at the 106.47 yen mark.

The euro, meanwhile, fetched 1.1092-1093 dollars and 118.18-22 yen against 1.1095-1105 dollars and 117.88-98 yen in New York and 1.1071-1072 dollars and 117.86-90 yen in late Tuesday afternoon trade in Tokyo.
