Tokyo stocks open lower, tracking losses on Wall Street

TOKYO, July 22 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday, following Wall Street's slide late last week on declining hopes for a hefty rate cut by the US Federal Reserve this month to underpin the economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 103.32 points, or 0.48 percent, from Friday to 21,363.67.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 5.60 points, or 0.36 percent, at 1,558.36.

Precision instrument, farm and fishery, and food-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
