Hong Kong stocks started Thursday on the front foot after tumbling more than three percent over the previous two days as investors weigh China's reopening push against growing fears of a global recession.

The Hang Seng Index rose 0.80 percent, or 150.23 points, to 18,965.05.

The Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.11 percent, or 3.60 points, to 3,196.02, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China's second exchange eased 0.16 percent, or 3.32 points, to 2,067.72.
