Last week, the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) celebrated its 100th day of the island-wide special customs operations starting December 18, 2025. Over these 100 days, the world's "youngest FTP" has achieved a good start for its special customs operations, receiving positive feedback from all parties. Asked to provide more details about the feedback and commenting on the Hainan FTP, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press conference on Monday that the Hainan FTP is an important platform for leading global open cooperation and driving innovative development. From a smooth start to vigorous development, the Hainan FTP has delivered an impressive 100-day report card.
Since its full customs closure, Hainan has been guided by institutional opening-up, using major transportation corridors to drive greater openness, and promoting greater development, becoming an important economic hub and innovation cooperation platform for both the domestic and international "dual circulation," Mao said.
Mao introduced that with the implementation of policies such as zero tariffs and low tax rates, Hainan has seen rapid increases in passenger flows, cargo volumes, and the number of enterprises: visa-free inbound arrivals rose 54.2 percent year‑on‑year, foreign trade imports and exports increased 32.9 percent year‑on‑year, and 737 new foreign-invested enterprises were established, a year‑on‑year rise of over 30 percent.
Taking the 100-day mark as a milestone, and serving as a vivid practice of China's institutional opening-up, the Hainan FTP will expand space through openness, meet challenges through innovation, and forge closer cooperation with the world, Mao said.
