SINGAPORE, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's economy grew 4.6 percent year on year in the first quarter, easing from the previous quarter's 5.7 percent expansion, advance estimates from the Ministry of Trade and Industry showed on Tuesday.

The ministry said the estimates are based largely on data from the first two months of the quarter and are subject to revision. It added that the Middle East conflict may have started to weigh on economic activity in March.
While growth remained resilient in the first quarter, the ministry said the conflict could dampen activity in the coming quarters.
On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted basis, the economy contracted 0.3 percent, reversing from a 1.3 percent expansion in the fourth quarter of 2025.
