Amid growing global demand for clean energy and stable energy supply, Chinese new-energy storage companies are securing orders and expanding their international footprint at the ongoing 139th Canton Fair in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province.

The 139th edition of the China Import and Export Fair, better known as the Canton Fair, opened on Wednesday in Guangzhou, with a record number of over 32,000 enterprises attend the event.

"We debuted a micro solar energy storage system designed to provide power solutions for individual households or small community areas. The core advantage is the integrated inverter and battery design, which significantly reduces installation costs. During the Canton Fair, we have received a large number of customers from Asia, Africa, Central Asia, and South America," Liu Jing, marketing director at Blue Carbon Technology Inc, told the Global Times on Saturday.

"We debuted a ground source heat pump at this session, which is very popular among European and American buyers," Huang Kaichen, general manager of Foshan Airosd Thermal Techology Co, told the Global Times on Saturday at the Canton Fair.

Ground source heat pumps, which transfer heat from the ground to a building, have a wide range of applications and can be used in any location that allows for pipe burial or well drilling, according to Huang.

"Driven by global energy structure adjustments, overseas demand for heat pumps continued to grow. At this Canton Fair, we have already received a large number of intention orders from Europe, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Saudi Arabia, and other regions," said Huang.

For Shenzhen Lithtech Energy Co, which debuted a new semi-solid-state battery that replaces conventional liquid electrolytes with an advanced electrolyte system, there is a growing number of orders mainly from Asian and European markets, with particularly strong demand from countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam, and Iraq, He Xiaozhu, overseas sales director of Lithtech, told the Global Times on Saturday at the Canton Fair.

"Overall, overseas demand for battery products has shifted from 'optional' to 'essential,' especially at a time when rising international energy prices and higher natural gas and electricity costs have strongly accelerated the global green energy transition," said He.

A large number of inquiries began pouring in Lithtech from February. Its factories have been operating at full capacity with overtime shifts, and by April, multiple containers of products had already been shipped, according to He.

Also at the Canton Fair, MPMC Powertech Corp debuted a mobile energy storage and charging integrated unit, which has received multiple intentional order from Southeast Asian and South American buyers.

"We have already sent a dozen of sample products to our clients in Northern Europe prior to the Canton Fair. With many countries pushing for carbon neutrality and energy independence, demand in Europe is strong and continues to grow," Ren Xiaoyu, a sales manager at MPMC, told the Global Times on Saturday.

On Saturday, a new-energy storage product launch event was also held at the Canton Fair. A representative for a Mongolian procurement platform told the Global Times at the sidelines of the launch event that he had found several potential Chinese partners at the fair and looked forward to reaching deals in the near future.

In order to help exhibitors and buyers match in the new-energy sector, the 139th Canton Fair held a New Energy Storage International Exchange Conference. Industry insiders also shared their views at the conference.

Shi Yonghong, vice president of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, stated that the photovoltaic and energy storage industry has entered a period of rapid growth.

"Deepening international cooperation and stabilizing industrial and supply chains will continue to unlock enormous potential for the sector's global expansion," said Shi.

Sonia Dunlop, CEO of the Global Solar Council, said at the conference that solar energy, combined with energy storage, represents a golden industry combination for the future. The industry should seize opportunities to provide more stable and efficient core solutions for global energy security, system resilience, and energy transition, Dunlop said.

Also at the conference, Li Junfeng, executive director of the China Energy Research Society, noted that energy transition is irreversible. "The photovoltaic and energy storage industry is a trillion-dollar blue ocean market that will also give rise to new ecosystems such as asset trading, carbon asset management, and green finance."

Fan Gang, former president of the China Development Institute, a Shenzhen-based think tank, said that the evolving geopolitical landscape has once again highlighted the unequal distribution of traditional energy resources, such as crude oil and coal, around the world.

"In contrast, solar energy can be considered one of the world's most equitable energy sources. With the application of solar energy technology, it can become an inexhaustible resource. Therefore, solar energy is undoubtedly the direction of future development," said Fan.
