China's average daily token call volume grew rapidly from 1 trillion at the beginning of 2025 to 100 trillion at the end of last year, while the cumulative token call volume for the whole year reached approximately 21,100 trillion, according to a report released at the 9th Digital China Summit in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian Province, state broadcaster CCTV News reported on Wednesday.
Data is known as the "feedstock" for the development of artificial intelligence (AI), and the report showed that China's data resources are empowering the innovative development of AI with greater efforts.
Token is the smallest unit of information after data is split by AI large models for efficient processing. It has recently been standardized in Chinese as "ciyuan," and has become a buzzword as China's AI industry accelerates growth momentum.
The same report also showed that public data, with its huge volume and wide coverage, acts as a "catalyst" for unlocking the value of data elements as China's development and utilization of public data resources are continuously deepening, according to CCTV News.
China's public data opening efforts continue to increase. In 2025, the national public data opening volume and authorized operation volume both expanded by more than 30 percent year on year, the report said.
In 2025, the added value of China's core digital industries accounted for over 10.5 percent of the country's GDP, and digital infrastructure is being upgraded at an accelerating pace. China produced 52.26 zettabytes of data in 2025, an increase of 27.28 percent year on year, said Liu Liehong, head of the National Data Administration, on Wednesday.
Data generated by China's system software and AI reached 26.92 zettabytes in 2025, overtaking the volume of traditionally dominant Internet of Things (IoT) data for the first time, Liu said.
The 9th Digital China Summit will convene in Fuzhou from April 29 to 30.Nearly 400 leading enterprises, including China Southern Power Grid and Alibaba, will introduce their latest technologies and products to promote digital transformation, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
The summit will also showcase nearly 100 exemplary cases of data element integration across agriculture, industrial manufacturing, healthcare, culture and tourism, with more than 65 percent of exhibits making their debut.
