Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.27 percent to 4,057.74 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.51 percent lower at 15,340.36 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 2.88 trillion yuan (about 422.49 billion U.S. dollars), down 441.5 billion yuan from the previous trading day.

Stocks related to artificial intelligence, coal and gas led the gains, while those related to co-packaged optics were among the biggest losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.15 percent to close at 3,950.94 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 3.78 percent lower at 1,992.23 points.
