BEIJING, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.64 percent to 4,057.78 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.27 percent lower at 15,661.57 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices reached 2.76 trillion yuan (about 404.7 billion U.S. dollars), falling from 3.13 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Electronic chemicals and supercapacitor shares led the gains, while oil and gas exploration and services, industrial metals and liquor stocks were among the biggest decliners.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.83 percent to close at 4,088.88 points on Thursday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.69 percent higher on Thursday at 2,075.26 points.
