Southeast Asia's only landlocked country produces a rich variety of tropical fruit. But until recently, Laos's fruit farmers struggled to cash in. It would take ten days for a consignment to reach the market in neighboring China. Now, by contrast, cold-chain freight trains operating on the China-Laos Railway can deliver fresh tropical fruit there within hours, resulting in improved employment opportunities and incomes in Laos.
