TOKYO, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday that its global vehicle sales in May dropped 7.2 percent to 834,279 units from a year earlier, declining for the fourth consecutive month.

Toyota's overseas sales fell 9.6 percent to 715,898 units, with sales in the United States edging down 0.6 percent to 238,800 units, almost flat from the previous year, the company said.
Sales in the Middle East plunged 38.6 percent to 29,568 cars, while those in China slumped 31.7 percent to 102,299 vehicles, according to the world's largest automaker by volume.
Sales in Japan, however, climbed 11.1 percent to 118,381 units, supported by strong demand for new models such as RAV4 and bZ4X.
Meanwhile, global production fell 5.5 percent from a year earlier to 765,470 cars, posting its first decline in three months, Toyota said.
Toyota's overseas output dropped 9.4 percent to 514,882 vehicles, the first year-on-year decline in three months, while domestic output increased 3.7 percent to 250,588 units, marking its first increase in seven months, helped by the launch of new models.
