JAKARTA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Sales of Chinese-branded vehicles in Indonesia surged 82 percent year on year to 94,971 units in the first seven months of 2026, according to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) as quoted by local media.

BYD and Jaecoo accounted for more than half of the total. BYD ranked fifth among Indonesia's best-selling automotive brands, while Jaecoo ranked eighth, media reports said.

The growth came amid a recovery in Indonesia's automotive market, where total wholesale vehicle sales reached over 517,000 units from January to July.

Electric vehicles have become a key driver of Chinese automakers' expansion. GAIKINDO currently lists 18 Chinese automotive brands in the country.

Indonesia's battery electric vehicle sales more than doubled from 2024 to 2025, as the government expanded incentives, charging infrastructure and domestic EV production.
