KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Japanese retail chain Daiso launched its global distribution center (GDC), its biggest warehouse facility in the world, in Selangor state, marking confidence in Malaysia as a global logistical hub, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Thursday.

Such investments reflected Malaysia's ability to leverage its strategic location, established port infrastructure and skilled workforce to attract companies looking to strengthen their global supply chains, Anwar said in his officiating speech at the launching ceremony.

"It is a resounding vote of confidence in Malaysia's economic stability, infrastructure maturity and long-term potential," he said, adding that the facility is located near Port Klang which is ranked among the world's 10 busiest ports, and that the GDC would enable goods arriving from around the world to be sorted, stored and repacked before being distributed to international markets.

He added that the GDC would allow Malaysia to capture a greater share of the value generated by global trade, rather than merely serving as a transit hub for cargo.
