A Chinese company on Tuesday signed a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement to purchase Ethiopian coffee beans. The agreement between the Ethiopian government and Luckin Coffee (China) Co. Ltd. was signed at the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing in the presence of Teshome Toga, the Ambassador of Ethiopia to China.

According to the agreement, Luckin will purchase up to 2,000 tons of premium coffee beans from Ethiopia every year from 2021 to 2023, enabling more Chinese consumers to taste high-quality premium Ethiopian coffee at an affordable price and in a more convenient way.

In his remarks, Toga said 2020 marked the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and China, which will continue throughout 2021. He welcomed the signing of the agreement as part of the celebration of the golden jubilee.

The ambassador also encouraged Chinese companies to buy more Ethiopian coffee varieties, construct coffee processing factories in Ethiopia and work on value addition to further benefit Ethiopian coffee farmers.

Guo Jinyi, the chairman and chief executive of Luckin, noted they will continue to provide Ethiopian coffee to Chinese consumers with a high-quality and specialized product to satisfy the needs of a diverse consumer base.
