The European Union (EU) is preparing a list of countermeasures in case the potential US tariffs on European cars get implemented, European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said on Thursday.
"We are preparing together with our member states a list of rebalancing measures," Malmstrom said, adding that EU has made this clear to its American partners.
Malmstrom hoped an EU visit to Washington could help ease the tension.
EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will visit US President Donald Trump with Malmstrom on July 25 in Washington DC to discuss transatlantic trade.
