European stock markets rose solidly at the start of trading on Wednesday, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index up 0.9 percent at 6,671.48 points.

In the eurozone, Frankfurt's DAX 30 index gained 0.5 percent to 13,716.44 points and the Paris CAC 40 added 0.7 percent to 5,603.41.
