CHICAGO, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) agreed to voluntarily recall 862,520 vehicles in the United States, said the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Wednesday.

The recall is the result of in-use emissions investigations conducted by EPA and in-use testing conducted by FCA as required by EPA regulations, the EPA said in a statement.

The affected vehicles include some models of the Dodge Journey, Dodge Avenger, Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass.

According to the EPA, the recall will be implemented in phases this year beginning with the oldest vehicles first due to the large number of vehicles involved and the need to supply replacement components, specifically to the vehicle's catalytic converter.

Owners of the affected vehicles can continue to drive their vehicles. FCA will issue notification to owners when parts are available. They are required to bring their vehicles into the dealership for repair, said the EPA.
