Internet TV upgrades in attempt to attract young customers

Internet TV brand Coocaa, a subsidiary brand of Chinese television producer Shenzhen Skyworth-RGB Electronic Co Ltd, has announced a brand upgrade to greater attract a younger audience.

"Coocaa TV is a young brand, and we hope to convey the young generation's attitudes via the TV, which is our original intention behind upgrading the brand," said Tang Xiaoliang, chief brand officer of Shenzhen Skyworth-RGB Electronic.

The gross merchandise volume (GMV) of Coocaa TV has increased by 200 percent from January to May compared with same period last year, according to the company.

Data from market consultancy All View Cloud showed that TV sales reached 22 million units nationwide in the first half of this year, down 2.7 percent compared with the same period last year, and related sales revenue totaled 64 billion yuan ($9.3 billion), a fall of 11.8 percent year-on-year.

Experts said in the internet era, consumers' demands have become more personalized. Coocaa is committed to listening to the voices of its users, maximizing efforts in technology innovation with hopes of redefining the home appliance market where young consumers take the dominant position.

Last year, internet search giant Baidu Inc invested 1.01 billion yuan ($143.3 million) in Coocaa as part of the search giant's expansion into the smart hardware sector.

The two companies also reached a strategic partnership to cooperate in the fields of technology, content, data and operation. Meanwhile, Baidu's conversation-based AI system DuerOS will have a deeper integration with the intelligent home products of Coocaa.
