TOKYO, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged higher Wednesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index closing at a fresh 30-year high, as investors snapping up issues of firms reporting robust earnings saw losses recouped from earlier profit-taking.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 57.00 points, or 0.19 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 29,562.93, marking its highest closing level since Aug. 3, 1990.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 5.28 points, or 0.27 percent, to finish at 1,930.82.

Rubber product, pulp and paper and transportation equipment issues comprised those that advanced the most by the close of play.
