URUMQI, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- A new conglomerate oil field in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with an estimated total reserve of 1 billion tonnes saw its oil production this year surpass 2 million tonnes, according to the PetroChina Xinjiang branch.

The newly expanded production capacity of the oil field in Junggar Basin has also exceeded 2 million tonnes so far this year.

Since a large-scale development in 2017, the oil field's total output has exceeded 6.2 million tonnes and its production capacity has reached about 5.49 million tonnes as of Monday.

To offset the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Xinjiang branch has ensured the smooth production and operation of the oil field with measures such as optimized construction sequences and timely material supply.

The oil field in the Mahu Area was discovered in late 2017, and its naphthenic crude is believed to be a rare variety of crude oil.
