S. Korea's consumer price rises 0.6 pct in January

South Korea's consumer price rose 0.6 percent in January from a year earlier mainly due to cheaper crude oil, statistical office data showed Tuesday.

The consumer price index (CPI) stood at 106.47 in January, up 0.6 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea. The headline inflation stayed below 1.0 percent for four straight months since October.

Price for industrial products declined 0.6 percent last month owing to a lower global oil price.

Price for electricity, natural gas and tap water slipped 5.0 percent in January on a yearly basis.

Price for agricultural, livestock and fishery products advanced 10.0 percent in January from a year ago, after gaining 11.1 percent in November and 9.7 percent in December respectively.

Private services price went up 1.5 percent on a hike in the minimum wage, but public services price slipped 2.1 percent on an expanded welfare policy.
