SEOUL, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating rose this week despite the ongoing controversy over the justice minister nominee, a weekly poll showed Thursday.

According to the Realmeter survey, support for Moon gained 1.3 percentage points over the week to 47.8 percent this week, continuing an upward trend for two weeks in a row.

The negative assessment on Moon's management of state affairs slipped 1.9 percentage points to 48.3 percent.

Moon's support score had declined on controversy over Cho Kuk, the justice minister nominee faced with corruption allegations involving his family, but the support rating rebounded as Cho explained about the allegations during a press conference earlier this week.

Support for Moon's ruling Democratic Party added 0.4 percentage points over the week to 39.8 percent this week.

The main conservative opposition Liberty Korea Party saw approval score slide to 28.5 percent this week, continuing a downward trend for the second consecutive week.

The minor progressive Justice Party won 7.4 percent of support, followed by the minor conservative Bareun Future Party with 5.1 percent, the far-rightest Our Republican Party with 1.5 percent, and the center-left Party for Democracy and Peace with 1.1 percent respectively.

The results were based on a poll of 1,502 voters conducted from Monday to Wednesday. It had plus and minus 2.5 percentage points in margin of error with a 95-percent confidence level.
