“The Shanghai FTZ is developing plans for its expansion,” MOFCOM spokesman Gao Feng said.

Among the first batch of special economic zones in the country, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Zhuhai and Hainan have been approved for FTZ.

119 of the 122 reform pilot tasks in the Guangdong FTZ have been completed.

The Guangdong FTZ plans to carry out reforms to build a new development platform for reform and opening-up in Shantou, the director of the Guangdong Pilot Free Trade Zone, Cao Dahua, told a media briefing in September.

More development opportunities for in-depth cooperation between Shenzhen and Shantou will be offered by the expansion.

At the opening of the first China International Import Expo, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that a new area of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone will be developed to encourage and support the city to make bold innovations in investment, trade liberalization and facilitation.
