Singapore stocks close 0.01 pct higher

SINGAPORE, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.01 percent, or 0.28 points, to close at 2,591.88.
A total of 1.59 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.54 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.09 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 234 to 178.
The STI index went up 0.75 percent, or 19.24 points, to close at 2,591.60 on Wednesday. Stocks trading in Singapore Exchange was suspended on Thursday for the Vesak day.
