Taiwan electronic components exports drop in first nine months

TAIPEI, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's exports of electronic components, the biggest category of the island's exports, dropped by 1 percent in the first three quarters compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the island's finance authority.

The export of electronic components amounted to 80.9 billion U.S. dollars in the first nine months of 2019, accounting for about one-third of the island's total export, said a report released by the authority on Thursday.

The export of integrated circuits, with an amount of 71.8 billion U.S. dollars, saw a 2 percent rise during the period, while the other components, including printed circuit, LED, solar panels and capacitors and resistors, saw total exports drop by 20 percent.

Solar panels and capacitors and resistors, saw the sharpest decline of 71 percent and 29 percent respectively, as Chinese mainland companies have boomed in these sectors, the report noted.

In terms of the third quarter, the total export of electronic components rose by 3.9 percent year on year, with the integrated circuits exports increasing by 8.1 percent, and the other components dropping by 21.5 percent.
