Tokyo stocks climb in morning as US stimulus measures lift mood

TOKYO, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose Tuesday morning tracking U.S. shares higher overnight, as investor sentiment was lifted by a U.S. COVID-19 stimulus package.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 438.34 points, or 1.63 percent, from Monday to 27,292.37.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 18.80 points, or 1.05 percent, at 1,806.84.

Air transportation, service and land transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
