TOKYO, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index extending its winning streak to a fifth straight day as better-than-expected earnings from U.S. chip giant Intel sent semiconductor issues here higher.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 49.21 points, or 0.22 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 22,799.81.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.70 points, or 0.29 percent, to close at 1,648.44.

Pharmaceutical, chip and precision instrument-related issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
