Tokyo stocks close higher as sentiment buoyed by US earnings

TOKYO, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks ended higher Thursday with the benchmark Nikkei stock index closing at a one-year high, as US shares advancing overnight on upbeat corporate earrings buoyed the market mood amid hopes for domestic firms' solid earnings.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 125.22 points, or 0.55 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 22,750.60, marking its highest closing level since Oct. 17, 2018.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, finished 5.60 points, or 0.34 percent, higher at 1,643.74.

Mining, rubber product, and oil and coal product-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
