Tokyo stocks close higher on hopes for global economic outlook

TOKYO, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday with sentiment helped by some positive moves by US shares overnight amid rising expectations for the global economic outlook.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 82.55 points, or 0.38 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,807.50.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 5.70 points, or 0.35 percent, to finish at 1,625.75.

Marine transportation, metal product, and textile and apparel-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
