Tokyo stocks close higher on Wall Street's overnight rebound

TOKYO, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday as investor sentiment was bolstered by U.S. shares advancing overnight, particularly technology issues bouncing back, which helped give their counterparts here a boost.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 227.43 points, or 0.99 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 23,205.18.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 9.67 points, or 0.58 percent, to finish at 1,684.44.

Real estate, iron and steel, and pharmaceutical-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
