Tokyo stocks close lower as investors take profits after recent gains

TOKYO, July 3 (Xinhua) - Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday snapping a two-day winning streak, as a comparatively firm yen weighed on exporters and investors moved to take profits after recent advances.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 116.11 points, or 0.53 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 21,638.16.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 10.30 points, or 0.65 percent, to finish at 1,579.54.

Oil and coal product, mining and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
