Tokyo stocks close lower on concerns for global economy

TOKYO, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks fell for a fourth straight day on Thursday, with the Nikkei index closing below 22,000 for the first time since last October over concerns for global economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 477.96 points, or 2.13 percent, from Wednesday at 21,948.23.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 38.11 points, or 2.37 percent, to finish at 1,568.06.

Air transportation, securities house and mining issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
