TOKYO, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday as investor sentiment was dampened by Japanese and U.S. firms' corporate earnings reports revealing downwardly revised outlooks and diminished revenues as a result of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 167.44 points, or 0.86 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 19,262.00.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 4.69 points, or 0.33 percent, to finish at 1,421.29.

Air transportation, securities house and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
