Tokyo stocks close lower on worries over COVID-19 resurgence

TOKYO, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Monday as investors locked in gains amid worries over recent record-high numbers of patients with severe COVID-19 symptoms in Japan.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 203.80 points, or 0.76 percent, from Friday at 26,547.44.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, was down 15.19 points, or 0.86 percent, to finish at 1,760.75.

Air transportation, precision instrument, and metal product issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
