TOKYO, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday, following a weak lead from Wall Street overnight, with some investors opting to secure profits after recent rises.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 98.40 points, or 0.45 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,658.15.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 6.33 points, or 0.40 percent, to finish at 1,571.52.

Nonferrous metal, transportation equipment and machinery-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
