Tokyo stocks close sharply lower as trade concerns trigger rout

TOKYO, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply lower Monday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index tumbling to a two-month low, as heightening concerns over global trade issues triggering a rout.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 366.87 points, or 1.74 percent, from Friday to close the day at 20,720.29.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 27.58 points, or 1.80 percent, to finish at 1,505.88.

All industry categories retreated to close in negative territory, with farm and fishery, iron and steel, and electric appliance-linked issues comprising those that declined the most by the close of play.
