TOKYO, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed slightly lower Wednesday in cautious trade as investors refrained from making bold moves ahead of the outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy meeting later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 18.33 points, or 0.08 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 23,391.86.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 5.82 points, or 0.34 percent, to finish at 1,714.95.
Marine transportation, miscellaneous product and bank-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
