TOKYO, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Monday morning following Wall Street's weak lead late last week, with the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar sending exporter issues lower.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 122.31 points, or 0.54 percent, from Wednesday to 22,629.30.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 7.94 points, or 0.50 percent, at 1,565.02.

Marine transportation, iron and steel, and air transportation issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.

Japanese markets were closed on Thursday and Friday for national holidays. Enditem
