TOKYO, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged marginally higher Friday morning, although earlier gains on hopes for progress in key trade talks were largely erased.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 21.78 points, or 0.09 percent, from Thursday to 23,352.10.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.55 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,700.68.

Precision instrument and food-linked issues comprised those that gains the most by the morning break.
