TOKYO, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended gains Thursday morning after the U.S. Federal Reserve stayed pat on its rates and maintained an upbeat view about the future course of the country's economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 51.21 points, or 0.22 percent, from Wednesday to 23,443.07.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 0.92 point, or 0.05 percent, at 1,715.87.
Metal product, machinery and real estate-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
