Tokyo stocks extend gains in morning on eased concerns over Mideast tensions

TOKYO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rebounded Thursday morning as investor sentiment was lifted by eased concerns over tensions in the Middle East escalating further, with the yen's softer tone giving exporters a boost.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 473.05 points, or 2.04 percent, from Wednesday to 23,677.81.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 25.47 points, or 1.50 percent, at 1,726.87.

Electric appliance, machinery and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
