Tokyo stocks fall in morning on yen's rise, caution ahead of earnings

TOKYO, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Thursday morning as exporter issues were hurt by the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar while investors cautiously awaited more corporate earnings reports from major Japanese firms including Toyota.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 74.16 points, or 0.33 percent, from Wednesday to 22,440.69.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 4.43 points, or 0.28 percent, at 1,550.28.

Food, real estate and land transportation issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
